Midwifery

What is Midwifery?

Midwifery is a specialized and highly respected field focused on the care of women before pregnancy, during pregnancy, childbirth, and the postnatal period. Midwifery is a profession that is not merely about childbirth, but about ‘the woman’. It is the practice of standing with a woman through the transformative cycles of reproduction, childbirth and the postpartum period. It is a blend of science that manages the body and art, which manages the soul.

‘Midwifery is the oldest profession, the holiest of callings and the most vital of sciences. It is that silent strength that ensures that every arrival into this world is a journey of safety and a moment of triumph’. It is a key pillar of human rights and public health. Midwifery is greatly evolving globally and as the world faces rising population and healthcare disparities, the need for Midwives increases.
